Participantat a minimum a prospect and 2026 2nd rnd pick for McMann. I’d prefer a 1st, but the Oiler have one in 2027.
To take on Mangiapane contract/salary dump, Emberson is the payment/compensation for that or draft pick.
Ideally that would be great.
I just dont think you get anything higher than a late 2nd/early 3rd and b/c prospect for McMann.
The leafs havent been good at winning trades lately. In a somewhat perfect world, you shut down matthews and nylander for most of the rest of the season. Sell what you can and play ahl’ers and hope to get into the top 5 of draft….and not fall out during the lottery ball show. Or finish in top 10 draft and fall into the top 5. Leafs need some luck. Which has never been on the leafs side.

ParticipantI sincerely mean it, time to blow this roster up and build it up in another way. I’ll always cheer for them to win every game, I’m a leafs fan, but this current team is a mess, I can say it.
This was the year to retool.
They should not have giving up the 2026 1st first last year at TDL.
This was always going to be a transition year, somehow Tre didnt see that coming (I get we’ve had a lot of injuries) but this was an unknown year with all the changes that were going to happen.I cant stress enough, even though Ive said it for years. You cant go “all in” year after year without having any success. You just cant.
Looks like once again, the leafs will be helping to make the Bruins a quality team. They never learn.

ParticipantHonestly, just because the leafs gave up a 1st + for laughton and a 1st plus a great prospect for Carlo doesnt mean other teams are dumb enough to give 1st rounders + for any player outside of Matthews, JT, Willie, woll, Knies, Mcabb etc…which they wont be selling. I cant see any player the leafs will be trading fetching a 1st unfortunately, this is Tre we are talking about. Not a very good GM at trading.
I hope Im wrong and by some miracle they get a 1st for OEL or anyone….but its the leafs, its Tre….I dont have high hopes for either to clean up at the deadline.I would keep 3 goalies for now, we honestly dont know who to rely on long term at this point.

ParticipantMangiapane, Emberson, a prospect and 2026 2nd rnd pick for McMann
Would you do this trade?
Why would the other team give up that much for mcmann even if the leafs are taking on a bad contract?
Fakepartofme
ParticipantThere definitely is a need for it. Fans need to keep this franchise accountable. Also, a lot of people here insulted me for telling them the truth. And now I’m right. So they can suck it, deep, long and hard.
You werent telling the truth….you would just whine and complain about people justifiably dumping on marner

ParticipantWoo hoo! The Drive for bottom five is still alive!!!
FFS, this team is already back here after winning nothing, worst part is they traded away their 1st. Ive said for years, quick trading away 1st rounders.
Tre better sell what he can, he wont get much as teams know the leafs are desperate.

ParticipantAs I have said for many years, you cannot be “all in” every single year for 5- 7 consecutive years (unless you have success, which the leafs never did). You need a retool year to draft and fill the cupboards with prospects and picks. The leafs never did that…they wasted draft capital and assets yearly.

ParticipantThe Leafs could have all of those things and it still wouldn’t matter if the retard GM is signing over the hill, broken down players like Tanev. Or Stolarz. Or any other guys they brought in way past their expiration date. It would be like building a structure with rusted steel beams and expecting it to hold up the test of time.
The real problem with the Leafs isn’t the medical staff. It’s the fact that they absolutely suck donkey cock at drafting and developing players. When great teams get hit by injuries, they have a next man up attitude. You think Tampa Bay, Vegas, Colorado or Florida haven’t had some injuries? Of course they have. The difference is they have depth and a system that works when the next guy up is plugged into the roster.
The Leafs, because they’re built by a retard, live and die on the performance of a couple key players. If they are hurt, playing poorly or get shut down, the rest of the team falls apart.
How many drafted players do the above teams have on their current roster that they drafted? Florida 7 maybe, 2 or 3 are real impact players. Vegas 3? They were gifted a good team and extra picks and traded for everyone. All the teams above have traded away many of their first rounders over the years for high impact players. The leafs simply havent been able to do that and when it does occur, they rarely keep the player or they disappear to injuries.
The leafs problem is they paid marner and matthews simply too much in the beginning which has screwed them for years. Now they put money into other players who simply arent good either. Its poor cap allocation and asset management.
Vegas and florida had depth because they were greatly over the cap when they won.Fakepartofme

In hindsight, Dubas was adequate. But I think the entire Shanny era was an unequivocal failure. The way Marner was handled from the start was a disaster, they gave the kid (or his dad) absolute power and got burned in the end.
Shanny’s first 5 years were pretty good. I did make some big positive changes for the leafs and how they were viewed around league and they were able to sign the biggest FA in sport at that time. The team looked like a genuine cup contender.
But Dubas was horrible at negotiating contracts and gave in to Matthews and marner who didnt earn or deserve those contracts at the time. Then for the final 5 years, Shanny refused to budge on the core 3. One of Marner or Nylander needed to be moved out for another type of star player.
But they werent.
Dubas giving whiny marner a NTC/NMC clause was another big mistake.
Tre almost changed the leafs franchise had marner accepted a trade to the Canes for Rantanen…that would have great improved the team. But it didnt happen and Tre made the ultimate mistake of trading two 1st round picks and quality prospects for a 3rd liner and 4th dman.
The 2026 1st rounder should never have been in play.
The leafs have Captain who doesnt seem to care that much
So many injuries and goalies who are not repeating the level of success they had last year (it short spurts they have)
A team that looks disorganized and continues to no show in games (am ongoing issue for the pat 6 years)
Now we have a coach that is trying to force a system on players who cant play it and a GM who simply isnt up for the task of making this team successful.
The leafs analytics were in a downward spiral for years but everything aligned for them last year to help win them the Atlantic.
That wasnt going to happen every year, as we have seen this year, injuries caught up to them
Its all so leafy. Which is the way it has to be.Fakepartofme
Participantthey can take teams bad contract to get a better return with more cap space
I guess.a 3rd or 4th pick is better than what they have I suppose.
Fakepartofme
ParticipantSo the Leafs have placed Joshua and Tanev on to the LTIR. That’s 7M extra in potential cap space.
Cap space for what?
They have no assets to trade to acquire anyone of use. Plus you can no longer be above the cap in the playoffs….like the panthers have been for the past two years.Fakepartofme
Participantfor me, you are punting the issue to a later date with no protection on the pick.
If the Leafs can finish between the 11th and 16th pick would be better IMO.
For me, you keep Laughton unless his salary demands are too high for his next contract. (4yrs @2.5~3M cap hit)
Agreed, you are punting the issue but you may be punting a worse pick for the team. I dont want to provide the team with a top 16 pick which seems to be what they will be getting now.
I could easily be talked into keeping Laughton for at 2.5 – 3m per, give him a letter and least you are not losing the asset you trade a 1st and prospect forFakepartofme
ParticipantUG, you through so much spaghetti to the wall, some of it bound to stick.
Moving players above 25 is not wise.
Did he predict all the injuries, which has been one of the main drivers for the leafs lack of success?
He simply whined about baby marner turning down the leafs good offer to run away to vegas.Fakepartofme
ParticipantOk time to sell, sell, sell, sell.
Too many injuries and simple lack of heart and effort to get into the playoffs
Bottom out for a top five pick or simply sell any FA’s.
Laughton for a 2nd – which is all he should have been traded for all you’re going to get now.
Maccelli – 3rd
Jarnkrok – 4th or 5th
Robertson – 3rd.I doubt either of the above gets a 1st, unless the leafs are trading with the leafs.
Fakepartofme
Participantfucking treleaving traded Minton (13g-12a-25p +15) and that 1st for Carlo
so leafy
Horrible trade. Hated it then and still do.
Tre doesnt seem to be too great at deadline deals.
Hopefully, he doesnt move any more picks or young players this year. Just sit tight or move out vets for picks/prospects.Id still prefer this leafs team finish in the bottom 5 to push our 1st out another year.
