ParticipantThe Blues are another team getting bad defensive results. Teams like that seem to find their checking game and do a nice job stifling the Flyers overly cooperative offensive game. The Flyers need two points here.

ParticipantThat’s very simplistic. If all you care about is winning a game in November that nobody will remember, sure. If your goals are more long term like say building a Stanley Cup roster, it absolutely matters. The short term thinking that has doomed the Flyers front office for years.
There’s a balance between short and long term thinking. I suppose the Flyers should be deliberately tanking for a better draft pick next year since they won’t win the cup this year.

ParticipantRisto has missed 50% of his games since the start of 2023. He’s lost an entire season’s worth of games and not gotten above 20 pts since he joined the Flyers 5 years ago. He reinvented himself as a 3rd pair dman, when healthy, who now excels at not being asked to do a lot.
It’s great that Risto has reinvented himself as a defensive defenseman, when available, while still being paid to be the franchise/PP QB defenseman, for him. Him and his 9 PP points in 4 years. Ghost has had 90 PP points in that time frame and we wonder why the Flyers PP has sucked.
Risto gets paid to fill a roster spot. If he’s more effective than whoever he replaces, likely Juulsen, how is that bad for the team when that happens? None of where he was drafted, what scoring numbers he put up in Buffalo, what the Flyers gave up to get him, how often he’s injured or what his contract is matters.
Ghost hasn’t played here in a half a decade and has moved four times since. Not sure how focusing on everything other than how this year’s team is doing is even marginally interesting or relevant.

ParticipantJust imagine when Risto and Bonk come back.
Risto’s return will be a good thing but he’s missed so much time. It was supposed to be 6 months and the surgery was in March. We’re two months beyond that and no firm return date yet. He was the Flyers second best Dman last year. Assume he’s up to date on all the systems/watch tape stuff and his cardio is OK since it’s his arm that’s the issue.
Not expecting anything from Bonk this year, but what the hell did he do to himself? Upper body without surgery needed. It’s been two months plus. Everybody was commenting on the bulk gain. I hope he didn’t injure himself pushing things in the gym. Unforced error if that’s what happened.

ParticipantI would look for an entertaining game tonight considering EDM is the opponent. The Flyers seem to come up a little better against the marquee opponents, play down to the teams that bring less than that. Foerster seems likely to be back. Lines were juggled a little too much for my taste while he was out. Thought that hurt them, especially against CGY. Vladar in goal is always the better option. They’re still in a playoff spot on November 12, but need 2 points tonight to keep that going.

Participantguess a simple yes or no is too much for you.
Hahaha! What are you, some wannabe ambulance chasing attorney?
yes it will damage his game as the keep focusing on the perceived negatives. why not play to his strengths? has to play the “flyers” way. so much success with that so can’t blame the flyers for trying.
I don’t see any indication the Flyers are focusing on negatives, perceived or not. In case you haven’t noticed, the Flyers have cut almost a full goal a game off their results from last year. Lots of forwards on this team needed to clean things up in their own end. Guys like Konecny, Brink, Tippett Foerster and Michkov had to get better results in their own end. So far they have, although Tippett is sagging again.

Participantis their strength on the current roster and organization on the wing? simple s or no.
They’re deep enough up front when healthy. One guy goes down, they aren’t super deep. The real strength right now is team defense. They’re 5th in the league at the moment.
well MM isn’t going to come close to thise 3 so the comparison is silly.
So is suggesting if Michkov pays attention to D-zone responsibilities, it’s somehow damaging his game. Cherry picking for breakaways in the neutral zone is something to be avoided.

ParticipantTk, zegras, the forest, tippet, brink, MM. Then you Martone after his college season ends.
yes, a surplus and organization strength.
making him into a 3rd line grinding winger. that flyers buzzword 200 ft game.
Maybe you have Martone when his season ends. As of today, there is no surplus up front. There’s no pressing need for the Flyers to do any deals.
Lots of highly skilled, high scoring Euro forwards knew how to D up. Kurri, Datsyuk, Federov, Barkov come immediately to mind.

Participanttippet should be moved 100%. they have s surplus of wingers. get his contract off the books. he is on another long pointless streak. they won’t miss him 1 bit. now I do not expect them to trade him sadly.
For MM not even about the points. stop trying to make him something he is not. god fn forbid they utilize his strengths.
Surplus of wingers? Hahaha, maybe in the pipeline but not right here, right now.
Stop trying to make Michkov something he is not? What’s that, an NHL player?

ParticipantTo add. MM is off to a slow start. it happens. not a big deal.
Five points in his last 6 games for MM. Trending in the right direction. Konecny started slow but picked up quicker. He’s got 12 points in his last 11 games and is a +4. The team is 6-3-1 in their last 10. There are a couple scoring issues but Michkov, or even Tippett aren’t among them.

Participantat the end of the day the flyers, in time, will have to make a choice. MM or tocchet. I have zero doubt it will come down to that decision.
Thanks Nostradamus!

ParticipantThe whole thing was pretty hilarious. Couturier didn’t say anything Tocchet hasn’t said already but didn’t sell as well as Tocchet does, throw in an offside that was on Coots where he looked upset (at Michkov???!!!) and the Michkov goal celebration where the team didn’t act like a bunch of cheerleaders and you did have a very funny mess that will amount to filler for a three day break between games. Coots could learn to not take the bait and keep things completely positive when asked troll questions from someone like Kurz. It’s important to keep in mind he works for a thoroughly dishonorable media conglomerate, the NY Times, that spent more than half a billion dollars for the Athletic, which has never turned a profit. Be happy to share at least one detailed story about how larger media organizations and reporters control the narrative towards conflict real or imagined.

ParticipantWe also deep dive into Matvei Michkov’s start to the season on and off the ice after an electric goal vs Ottawa.
It’s not like Michkov’s rookie year was all roses. He had three different streaks of 6-7 pointless games and was on the ice for a lot of goals against that accounted for his brutal overall -18. But he showed those flashes more often too. This year, he has one 3 game pointless streak but was even during it and has 5 points in his last 6 games and is also even during this stretch. Nothing wrong with becoming a more consistent and defensively reliable player.
The Flyers goal woes come from a 4th line that hasn’t scored once yet. Grebenkin has one but was stepping up for Foerster when he scored it. You would think they’d have something even accidentally. The D doesn’t have many goals either with four, Drysdale leading the way with 2. I normally don’t care or expect much from those areas but you need something.
FlyerFrank
ParticipantAce of a play by Michkov, burning a pretty good Dman in Sanderson. Nice first shot from Zegras and Drysdale got the bounce for the other goal. One thing about Zegras, he never really vanishes in games. He’s noticeable even when things aren’t going great. The forwards haven’t looked quite right with Foerster out. One guy going down shouldn’t have that kind of effect on a team, but it has. Hopefully, he can go Wednesday. Despite some issues here and there, the Flyers are still in a playoff spot on November 9.
FlyerFrank
ParticipantPotential trap game. Gotta look out for those. I expect they’ll be ready to play. NSH is a bit of a mess. Need at least 1 point tonight on the road, 3 for the 2 game trip. They need to keep winning. How it happens is always the question. It’s hockey. Some road games are probably for the best right now.
