ParticipantDoesn’t seem likely. Here’s how I have it. They do need a real upgrade before Bonk is truly ready for a regular NHL role. This list may need an update too.
FLYERS:
SANHEIM RISTOLAINEN
YORK DRYSDALE
SEELER JUULSEN
ZAMULAPHANTOMS:
ANDRAE GRANS
GINNING BONK
McDONALD GILBERTAT LEAST A YEAR AWAY:
GILL

ParticipantI saw this and, although it’s not hockey, it made me think of the Flyers because it’s the same damn defense of the team the flyers use.
Predicted to have one of the worst if not the worst defense in the league this year but man, they have the championship culture that nobody else has.
That’s when you know you are rock bottom.
They need to cut about 40 goals against, or roughly half a goal a game. The goalies combining for a .900 save pct. should about get that done. It’s possible with the two Russian catastrophes gone and an upgrade, however slight, in Vladar. There are some things they just can’t do any worse on. Puck support needs to get a lot better. They have some pieces on defense. They need at least one pleasant surprise back there.

ParticipantA guy they drafted 12th overall is going to be an nhl regular, wow that is a hot take if I ever saw one.
Guys taken in the Top 12 have a 90%+ chance of becoming NHL regulars. They might disappoint, but they play regularly. Unless you’re the Rangers.
FlyerFrank
Participantyou forgot to add nesbitt and all the other big mean nasty players the flyers drafted in 2025.
can wait to them package that depth for that elite player.
nothng to complain about the forwards. love it. keep the faith. go flyers
Nesbitt will be a regular NHL player. Say what you want about the Flyers drafting but they aren’t the Rangers.

ParticipantZegras is 100% going to be a center. The flip to wing last year was because ANA was so lacking in scoring Cronin felt the need to get his 6 best offensive forwards onto two lines. They still weren’t very productive. Frank Vatrano is an admirable player, but he’s not a Top 6 winger. He gets you 3rd line winger numbers in Top 6 minutes. Zegras does create a lot of offense down near the goal line. We’ll see how that fits with Tocchet’s Box + 1. He won’t be the first forward back a lot of the time. Giving him some Hecht/Leino/Kurri-esque 2-way support from the wing isn’t a bad idea but, word is, Zegras isn’t a slacker on defense either. He’s their best option for scoring center. He’s not flipping to wing.
Nice to see some positives on Dorwart. Things are tightening up up front though for slots.

Participantthey finished bottom 10. that is not ok. just because you dont see a problem doesn’t mean it is good enough to get it done. they are not deep. they are nothing but average at best
“But like I said, when you’re not spending $12 million on a player, or even two like Edmonton does… Colorado has three or four high-end guys. We’re not going to be built that way. So depth will be important to us.”
love that quote by the gm.
Average age of what I see as their Top 9 is 25 and change with Martone and Luchanko on the way. Depth also gives them some pieces to put a package together for one of the elite needle-moving, difference-making forwards you think they MUST have to “get it done,” whatever “it” is. There’s literally nothing to complain about in the way the forwards are shaping up. Briere is right . . . as always!
FlyerFrank
ParticipantOk compared to what? Ok isn’t going to be good enough. Now or in the future.
They were in the bottom 10 in goals scored last year. How much improvement do you really think they will make on that as a team?
If ex selke “paces” for 60 points the flyers should look to move him asap. Can help a team win as you say. Will they? Hell no.
OK compared to the majority of the league. They aren’t stacked with elite players but they are deep in good NHL forwards with upside. That’s what the Flyers need to become: A good team better than the sum of its’ parts and their forward parts are pretty deep and pretty good. I don’t see a problem here. Defense and goal are the major concerns.

ParticipantDvorak is going to take faceoffs. Whether he takes the draw and then rotates over to wing, we will see.
I would hope Tocchet finds a way to get Dvorak and Couturier combined to take a majority of the faceoffs. It was a glaring hole before free agency. I can’t see either Dvorak or Cates getting pushed out of the Top 9 though. It opens the 4C slot, but so be it. There are a lot of different potential looks that teams are going to have to try to match up against. There’s a lot of flexibility there. Word on the street is Zegras is training with Adam Oates and working on draws among other things. This also isn’t bad news.
FlyerFrank
ParticipantNone good. Coots is probably a good 3C who can play up and down the lineup at this point in his career on a contender and he may still be the best the Flyers have. He did have a bit of a revival last year as the team fell apart around him but I doubt at age 33 with his injury history that if they lean on him to hard that he’ll produce and more importantly, stay healthy.
I think Couturier is better than you do at this stage. I don’t expect him to be the .9 PPG player he was in his prime, but he can still get to .7-.75 PPG and help a team win. That’s actually a good 2C, if you’re thinking in those terms. Zegras will be the 1C offensively at least. These forward lines look OK to me. I don’t see any worrisome holes there. Could a couple spots be upgraded? That’s what Luchanko and Martone are for in a year. It’s the team D that needs to get way better. There are worrisome holes on the blueline.
FlyerFrank
Participantwhen it comes to culture, the “room”, and genuine caring for each other the flyers are not far behind. a few correct moves they will be a force to be reckon with in the future.
can one say their front office knows what they are doing?
Hahaha! Of course the Flyers are far behind FLA. They aren’t as far behind enough other teams in the conference to make this season uninteresting.
FlyerFrank
ParticipantHave you seen their parts? How many teams have better parts than the Panthers?
Not many but no one has as good a team as FLA. The D, after Ekblad, was put together through trades and free agency. Forsling was claimed on waivers. Their 7th leading scoring forward was Evan Rodriguez at less than .4 PPG. I watched their parts carefully in the playoffs. The parts are enviable. The team is better.
FlyerFrank
ParticipantTrue. It takes more than just talent but it can’t be done without it. The Flyers tend to forget that.
Don’t forget that FLA team is better as a team than the sum of its’ parts.
FlyerFrank
Participantyou are the target market for the flyers. they love you.
another top 4 dman and they are on their way. once bonk makes his presence known look out.
I’m their target market? Hahahaha! I gave up on them for two seasons. Did not watch. Barely followed. No regrets. I like what I see now. I’ll be watching. Get back to me if I’m proven wrong . . . which I won’t be.
FlyerFrank
ParticipantUnless he blows the doors off everyone at camp, he should go back to Juniors.
I’m fine with that benchmark. I think it’s at least possible he does that.
FlyerFrank
ParticipantLet’s get our MacKinnon/Makar, Barkov/Ekblad, etc before putting the culture cart before the horse because without that, the rest is just something that comes out of the other end of the horse.
It’s also true some top rated players in the league haven’t won Cups either. The Flyers clearly need another Top 4 Dman. No question about that. Willing to find out what Zegras can do as the offensive 1C which he clearly will be. It’s a team game. The Flyers will be noticeably better this year.
