Dammit, Vladdy wore a Matthews jersey into the stadium today. Never wear or mention anything leafs related on a game 7 day.
Hopefully it doesnt ruin his mojo.

    LOL

He played a great game last night, I’m hoping the Mariners have a better game tonight and pull it off, finally playing in a World Series.

Neither of them looked out of place in game 1, hoping for continued success tonight.

Game 2 was a different story, let’s see how the next few games go, before they have to make a decision on Cootes

I guess this is kind of an old topic but Cootes looked like he just wasn’t ready for the NHL, thus he was sent down.

Center depth within the organization is a complete mess at the moment for the Canucks. They somehow always find a way to be a dysfunctional organization no matter what decade it is, and predominantly why they’ve never won a cup.

I must admit, despite it’s faults, the format here is actually much better than the new HB website. That thing is putrid!

So, the summer menu looks like it’s just re-sign everyone and hope for better results. According to Allvin some of the players they reached out to have no interest in playing in Canada, which is think is a bit misleading on his part. They probably don’t want to play for a crappy management group, along with playing in Canada.

Players you like or dislike come and go if you’ve been a fan for that long, it’s more the brand of hockey that I currently don’t like with the Canucks, more so than the actual players. They play a soft, slow brand of hockey. At the end of the day you can play many styles of hockey and be successful with it, you really need players who fit your system though, something Canucks management has not been good at since Mike Gillis was the GM.

Like him or hate him, he acquired players that fit his brand of hockey that he wanted to play and they were really successful at it, almost winning a stanley cup.

Gillis was barely better of a GM than Benning was. There is a reason why none of them have gotten a job as GM since. The biggest problem is that top quality GM’s don’t want to work with Aquilini cause of the type of POS he is.

I think you missed the point of my post, not once did I say Mike Gillis was a great GM, I simply said they haven’t had a GM who outwardly identified a system he wanted to the team to play and then went out and got players who fit that style of play. Yes he made a lot of mistakes along the way, plus he seems like a complete dick of a person, but they had a lot of success playing the style of hockey he wanted the team to play.

What style of play do the Canucks currently play? Who is driving their style of play, the coach? In my opinion, management should be identifying a style of play they want to see played, get a coach who buys into that, and then get players who fit that system. When your organization builds a brand of hockey, or an identity, you need to stick to that brand of hockey. When teams try to change their brand, they fall to the wayside. Look at Nashville, they’ve always been a defensive minded team, they play a certain style, then Trots goes out and signs a bunch of offensive minded players and now he has to give them minutes to try and create that offence, but the team suffers defensively and now they can’t produce offence or defend, so they suck. Stick to your brand and identity.

What is the Canucks current brand of hockey, what is their identity? They don’t have one, they’ve been throwing crap against the wall since Benning came to town and they’ve been pissing into the wind ever since. I’ve never heard Rutherford or Allvin say they want to play this or that style of hockey.

Demko signed for three years at 8.5 million a season.

In and of itself, on the hockey and cap/money side, this is a good deal for the Canucks. It’s the human side of it that could blow up in their faces, given Kane’s history of being a troublesome person and bringing drama into an organization. Considering all that the locker room went through last year, it’s a big leap of faith on Allvin’s part in my opinion. But I’m sure they did some homework before pulling the trigger on this deal.

I am also really disappointed, I agree with loaded that this is part of a bigger picture with this management group, but this particular player is an ass.

I am scratching my head at some of Alvin’s moves lately, and if that Barzal/Dobson for Pettersson/Hronek becomes true I will be at a loss as to the direction of the club.

There’s some smoke out there around social media about the Canucks, not sure what to think of it, could be a wild draft for them with a lot of player movement, or it could be a nothing burger too. I guess we’ll have to wait and see. Trading Pettersson for Barzal would be a huge mistake in my opinion.
