ParticipantJust tank like there’s no tomorrow. With the rest of the schedule, I only see them possibly winning 4 more games. Those would be predominately against the West Coast teams. In the East, maybe beat the Rangers at home, but don’t bet on it. What a dumpster fire. I’m pretty sure that they aren’t recording this team for posterity. The only speck of brightness was Matthews winning a Gold Medal at the Olympics. You just want to get out and help push this team bus over the cliff to be rid of it. I’ve now fallen into the camp of a total rebuild. What is the area code for London, Ontario?
And if Boston drafts 6th?

ParticipantAbsolutely pathetic display from the Leafs. Berube hasn’t given up, hence the ridiculous goalie pull with 4 minutes left down by 3, but his team certainly has and it appears as though Matthews is the leader of the pity parade. Playing against the best team in the East the Leafs have nothing left to play for but pride and clearly they showed they have none. On home ice? Who cares! Just get absolutely blown out with no push back. The Leafs motto was “Pride. Honor. Courage.” and the Leafs have shown absolutely none of those qualities on the ice. Well, maybe one type of pride but that won’t win them hockey games.
Matthews is playing like Phil Kessel. He’s a multiple time 60, almost 70 goal scorer with 100+ points and his pathetic ass can’t find the back of the net once in 10+ games? That’s disgusting. He’s on every single PP. He’s playing 20+ minutes a night. And he can’t score? In case people have forgotten, Matthews has 26 goals this year with 52 points. He’s not even a point per game player. Fucking 26 goals for 13.25 million dollars? But the retards here will insist Marner was a “waste” of cap space. Guess what retards, not only did the Leafs lose a 100 point player in Marner but they also lost the 60 goal, 100 point version of Matthews too. Surprise motherfuckers, it’s exactly what you asked for.

ParticipantIt’s looking like won’t take that long, remember Matthews is a western American boy so he didn’t grow up watching the leafs, their games would have been on at f’n supper time for him, so if they don’t get their shit back together in a hurry he’ll bail, head back to the US, and likely play over in the west.
And when that happens the leafs will be a bunch of old guys, Nylander, some half decent younger guys and that’s it, nobody decent will sign here because of it and they will forced into a rebuild. I’m guessing 1 more year tops and if they suck ass again they sell Matthews July 2nd 2027 in his final year at half the cap hit once everything but $900K has been paid to him. The return would be sweet.
This is mostly correct.
The Leafs won’t choose to rebuild but Matthews can and will force their hand. If he decides to leave (he should), Nylander will waive his NTC and Tavares, in his old age, will realize he’s better off chasing a Cup elsewhere. Rielly will take a hike too.
If they run back the same team and don’t fire Berube, this team will suck again. The UFA market is empty. The available options are old and underwhelming. Will the Leafs overpay to entice old, former star players or mediocre players to join an obviously dysfunctional, bad team in a terrible market?
The wild card is if they fire Berube and hire DeBoer. DeBoer is the ultimate runner up coach. He can turn a team around and get them to lose in the Finals.
Matthews and Nylander could easily get the Leafs a boatload of 1sts, top prospects and young roster players. If the Leafs trade them both at the 2027 draft, tank 2028, tank 2029, by 2030 they have an excellent chance to return to the playoffs. Also, July 2029 gives the Leafs the opportunity to sign McDavid as he might be a UFA and the Leafs would have unlimited cap space to overpay him while the rest of the team is still on ELCs.

ParticipantTreliving, as usual, failed. There were comparable players like Carlson and Faulk that went for a 1st++ and they didn’t move OEL. They could always move him in the future but that’s assuming he doesn’t fall off a cliff. He played better than expected this year on a bad team. They should have sold high before he gets Tanev’d.
Treliving did well to get a 1st for Roy but failed miserably on McMann and Laughton. It’s better to get at least a 2nd or a 3rd rather than nothing at all but Treliving needed to squeeze more. Maybe he’s just shit at working the phones and selling his assets. Stecher played well enough to get something, even a 3rd round pick.
Getting a 1st, 2nd, 3rd (maybe 2nd), 4th and 5th round pick is not terrible but also not good enough either. It’s a return fitting for this team; mediocre. It won’t make them a contender again next year and knowing this team, those picks will be either wasted or traded in a futile attempt to become a wild card team built for a 1st round exit. That can only change if management changes. A great GM could turn those picks into quality contributing players on a contender. But Treliving ain’t that guy.
One thing is for damn certain, Treliving blamed himself for the failure of this team and yet walks away with ZERO accountability. If he is truly blaming himself and accepting responsibility and accountability he should have quit long before today. Instead, he throws out some bullshit lines to the media, all the talking heads and retarded fans alike shrug their shoulders and Treliving gets to run it all back again next year. He works another draft, he works another July 1st and the Leafs trot out the same pile of shit they had this year. Rinse, repeat.
This team needs a full rebuild and instead they will get a replay of the Kessel years. You’re welcome and enjoy the ticket price increase.

ParticipantJohn Carlson with 10 goals and 46 points got a 1st + 3rd round pick as a pending UFA. OEL has TWO years left on his deal at a good price of 3.5 AAV with 8 goals and 35 points.
OEL must get a 1st round back, at least. Should probably be a 1st + 2nd or a very good prospect at this point.
Sam Carrick, 4th line rat, got a 3rd + 6th rounder. Schenn + Stanley got a 2nd + 4th rounder.
The Leafs can get great value for their assets at this market rate.
Unholy_Goalie
ParticipantConor Garland, a total pylon of a player this year with only 7 goals and 26 points with a cap hit that kicks in at 6AAV next year for the next 6 years just got a 2nd round pick.
That should give Treliving, the king retard GM, the kick in the ass to start getting 1st round picks for Laughton, McMann and OEL.
Hell, that even shows they can trade Rielly. Fucking 6 AAV for 7 goals from 5’10”, 165 lbs Garland but he just got a 2nd round pick. Brutal deal but obviously retarded GMs out there will give up draft picks for bad players. The Leafs have a lot of them to move.
Unholy_Goalie
ParticipantMatthews is too good to give up on. Washington, Colorado, even Pitts didnt give up on their generational talent and they eventually won. Pitts might even make the playoffs TWO years after people thought Sid and Co were all washed up when Dubas took over.
Ah well. Tomorrow will be fun in a different way.
This is a horrid comparison. Matthews is not as good as Ovechkin in the playoffs. Ovechkin lost in the playoffs to Crosby multiple times and was a beast in the playoffs despite his team losing. Matthews has been bad in the playoffs compared to Ovechkin. Matthews is a part of the problem, not the solution. He’s also been shit without Marner but that’s only a surprise to total retards who keep claiming “injuries”.
Unholy_Goalie
ParticipantI know you’re severely retarded, so I’ll spell this out for you. We have that cap space next year. And the year after. And the year after that, etc.
I would rather go from first to last and rebuild properly than run the same fucking team back for another 8 years.
Literally, EVERYBODY knew this year was going to be a step back, but no real fan cares about regular season superstars, the playoffs are all that matters.
Cap space for “next year” is irrelevant. There is nothing but old and garbage UFAs. What the fuck are you going to do with that cap space? Stroke your micropeen to it?
Nobody that is anywhere near as good as Marner is available as a UFA so congrats, you got a last placed team with cap space and nobody worth signing to make the team better.
You would rather be in last place? What a major league retard you must be. Enjoy the next 8 years being the Kessel years all over again though fucking retard.
The playoffs is what matters? Good luck succeeding in the playoffs when you miss the playoffs by 10+ points you fucking retard.
Unholy_Goalie
ParticipantMarner also turned into a fuck ton of much needed cap space.
That was wasted on a bunch of pylons and resulted in going from 1st to last. And no better players available as pending UFAs coming either.
So great job! Worked out amazing!
Unholy_Goalie
ParticipantGood start. Keep going.
Unholy_Goalie
ParticipantWeeger for Maata and three 2nd round picks.
Unholy_Goalie
ParticipantWeegar with 3 goals and 18 assists and a 6.25 AAV cap hit until 2031 is going to Utah. Don’t know if it’s a 1st coming back yet but D-man are moving. OEL is out the line-up for a reason.
Unholy_Goalie
ParticipantWhen is he not?
Less than you because I already know this team is garbage. You still hope for miracles.
I’m not expecting the Leafs to actually sell and get a bunch of 1st round picks. Or trade Matthews and Nylander. Because I already know Treliving and Pelley are retards driven by stupidity and greed.
I’m just pointing out the evidence that the Leafs have the assets and the market is there for them to be able to sell hard and rebuild. I already know they won’t. But they should.
I can’t be disappointed by this team because I expect the worst from them, I can only be pleasantly surprised.
Unholy_Goalie
ParticipantThe “retarded” GM is the one in charge of the leafs UG. Let’s talk Saturday, I’m sincerely willing to bet you’ll be disappointed.
Absolutely, Treliving is a retard. You can say it without the quotes. This isn’t the UK (yet) where they will put you in jail without a jury.
The Leafs have enough assets to acquire multiple 1st round picks. It’s up to them to sell what they have hard enough to the correct teams.
As I already proved, great GMs make bad trades all the time. Why? Because they all think they can win the Cup if they can just get that “one last piece”.
Does that mean the Leafs absolutely WILL get them, no, because this is the Leafs; they only thing they do successfully is failure. But they have value and that value has a price. We can clearly see that other teams are getting value for their assets. The Leafs need to step up and get the same.
Unholy_Goalie
ParticipantSabres getting Parayko for a 9th overall prospect and a 1st.
1 goal and 14 points this year for Parayko.
But the Leafs had to have Carlo last year for Minten and a 1st.
