its not always about the size, Jackson Blake and Stankoven are the same.
but swapping pylon Benoit for a puck mover makes sense. he is a 5/6, thats fine.

and I like Simon Benoit but he is a net negative on the ice.

this should be a win for the rebuild crowd, get another pick in 2026

Again, bottom pair small D don’t usually work out as well as forwards because of the punishment D-men have to absorb and dish out in the playoffs. Being physically small in the NHL is far more of a negative than it ever is a positive.

A 3rd doesn’t move the needle for a rebuild. It’s a shot in the dark with Chayka’s shit draft record. They need to pile up 1st round picks for any kind of rebuild to occur.

They are also both RFAs so the “cap space” idea is out the window if these guys eat up most of the money that went out the door. And it’s doubtful they just let them walk either.

Hill still has 5 years left @6.25M cap hit.
what was the deal with Hill not playing?
Does he need to call Williams Mattar?

He was hurt for half the year and sucked the other half. Torts probably got fired today because he refused to switch Hart for Hill in the Final but Hill’s numbers last year were bad.

It’s a huge contract that Vegas needs to dump so while the 1st wouldn’t be for a while, they could always try to move other pieces that are as valuable as a 1st without giving up a 1st.

Hutson is 5’9″ and he did well the this year’s playoff run with the Habs.

That only works in extremely rare circumstances. You can probably count on one hand how many 5’9″ D-men there are in the NHL and there is a very good reason for that. Hutson is only effective because he’s an offensive wizard. He makes a lot of defensive mistakes too but his offensive game usually makes up for it. But as a bottom pair D, being 5’9″ is a gift to the opposition when the games get tough.

Ersson is not in the plans im sure, AHL or not signed.
    Stolarz/Hildeby/Akhtyamov are the Goalies.

Woll at least had some trade value, so he goes.
Cap space means a lot when they can use to take a bad contract with a pick

Hildeby and Akhtyamov are completely unproven in the NHL over a full season. That’s the type of gamble that gifts the Bruins a top 5 pick with Stolarz as the only other option.

We will see if they take bad contracts for 1st round picks. If they acquire Adin Hill, they’d be killing two birds with one stone.

Benny was clutch in the playoffs, cheap and physical
More upset about him than Wollnuts

That was always the problem with Benoit. He hits and fights, which you love to see, but his ability to actually prevent goals was bad and he had no offensive ability whatsoever.

But replacing him with a soft 5’9″ LHD will make teams like the Panthers and Bruins laugh when they’re crushing him into the boards on playoff dump-ins.

Woll was the best goalie the Leafs had in their system. They’re not going to make the playoffs with shit goaltending.

Fine trade, Woll didnt have much value at all, most goalies dont and with Hildeby/Akhtyamov coming…whatever.
    Benoit alost zero value.

Getting a 3rd for Woll would have been fine, Emil Andrae useful moreso than Benoit. the other goalie who cares just a toss in

    Leafs also 5mil cap space

Terrible trade. Woll is injury prone but when he’s healthy, he’s better than Ersson who lost his job to Vladar because he’s never been a good starter. Stolarz is always hurt too and should have been the one to go. He has far less potential than Woll.

Cap space means nothing with no quality players to sign. The few UFAs out there won’t want to play on a bottom feeder like the Leafs unless they are grossly overpaid.

Both Ersson and Andrae are RFAs.

Both also Swedes. Sundin may be the genius behind this one.

    Here comes Stenberg.

UG in here raging and trying to cope through his tears is uber funny. Now the narrative is Vegas lost because of everyone else except Marner? GTFOH you retard – your little pink pony club princess Marner ghosted in games 5-7 like usual.

Keep bragging about how many points he got total while skipping past the fact he racked up more than half his playoff point in like 4 games you absolute cuckservative clown.

Leafs have one down year and your retarded window likcking ass is convinced it’s due to Marner leaving, again blasting past injuries to key players most of the year, Matthews playing hurt all season etc.

    Fuck you’re retarded.

1st to last without Marner. Marner did what the Leafs haven’t done since 1967; went to a Cup Final and led the playoffs in scoring.

The only major injury Matthews had before he hurt his knee was playing without Marner.

    Cope harder Libtard Ranger.

Chayka has already lost his first trade.

Retarded to trade Woll for a goalie who has never posted a SV% above .900 in the NHL.

Benoit was starting to suck defensively, probably playing too many minutes but he had almost twice as many hits as the next guy on the blueline. And in return, they got a 5’9″ LHD.

Absolutely retarded trade but perfectly in line with Chayka’s inability to make a good trade as per his history in Phoenix.

The Flyers absolutely robbed him blind.

the #1 pick doesnt have to make them an immediate contender, I know you like straw man arguments.
Most #1 picks come to a team thats pretty weak that doesnt have many other good players, and they are expected to be the star immediately. thats not the case here.

they dont have thier own 1st in 2027 but they do have a 1st (thanks Mitch).

The Matthews wants to leave stuff has gone cold. It was fluff to begin with. Doing a full rebuild and yes, he would likely want to leave. makes sense. But thats not what is going to happen.
deal with it, or cry more

Oh, yes it does. Matthews only has 2 years left. He’s not fucking around anymore. Another year of missed playoffs or 1st round exit and it’s lights out for Matthews.

They have what will be an extremely late 1st round pick that will most likely never replace Marner much less do so in less than 2 years which is what Matthews would give a shit about.

It’s not fluff, it’s reality. A soon to be UFA, wasting his best years on a floundering team is a truth pill you homers don’t want to swallow. The options are to become a contender overnight (extremely unlikely) or grossly overpay Matthews to stay on a shit team and hope he doesn’t care about ever winning a Cup.

I didnt need to, I wrote my post about mitch shitting the bed in an elimination game a couple hours before the game started, its the most predictable outcome

Most people don’t need to watch Leafs games to know they’ve been shitting the bed at building a team since 1967. It’s the most predictable outcome that they will find a way to fuck it up.

But you know what Marner did only 1 year away from the Leafs that the Leafs haven’t done since 1967? Make a Cup Final and lead the playoffs in scoring. That was a very predictable outcome.

The horse has finally been beaten to death…….

Dead like the Leafs chances at winning a Cup any time soon.

The end result with the Leafs getting the #1 pick after not getting Full value for Mitch is as good an outcome as I could have hoped for.
they got Roy which they flipped for 2027 1st and 2026 5th.

    Mckenna/Stenberg a 1st and 5th out of a wasted season

#1 pick doesn’t make the Leafs a contender again nor does it provide the Leafs with a legit cornerstone piece either especially if they waste it on McKenna who only gives the Leafs more of the same style of play that has lost them so many playoff series.

Also, means no 1st in 2027, no 1st in 2028 and one bad move away from Matthews leaving town.

Leafs are worse off as a contender and need to start a full rebuild all because they ran Marner out of town.

Marner had a good playoffs, nothing like he ever did in Toronto except…..the final 3 games of the Cup, he had 1 pt and was completely invisible in game 5.
    Games got big….he got small.

still not worth $14m the leafs offered him.
He should have accepted the trade to the canes….would be a cup winner right now.

Marner had a great playoffs, led the playoffs in scoring, 4th in goals, up there in short handed points too. Never happened in Toronto because Toronto was built like shit, wasting 12 million a year on a slug like Tavares and a lot of money wasted on trash D like Rielly. Could have traded Nylander years ago for better depth too which always held them back because Nylander’s defense would always lose them playoff games.

Games got big and where was Eichel (2 goals the entire playoffs)? Stone? Hertl? Hart? Theodore? Reality is, McDavid led the playoffs in scoring two years a row and Florida still won the Cup. Because individuals don’t win Cups by themselves, it’s not tennis or golf (which is what the Leafs did while Marner led the playoffs in scoring). Teams win Cups and Carolina was super healthy and a very organized team. That’s not a knock on Marner just like Florida winning two Cups isn’t a knock on McDavid. Great players played great but great teams win Cups.

Marner would have been worth every single penny of that 14 million. The Leafs would still be contenders. But now they’re one wrong move away from Matthews demanding a trade and rebuilding.

Yes, Carolina is an expert at evaluating talent and they determined that Marner would help them win a Cup. They were right. Guess what? Rantanen went to Dallas too. At the end of the day, Marner was loyal to the Leafs because he didn’t want to leave Toronto. His wife was very pregnant and he didn’t want to leave her to join Carolina. That was his personal choice and his right because he still thought he could come to an agreement with the Leafs because that’s where he wanted to stay. But the Leafs fucked around and they found out and now they suck ass and Marner is still on a contender.

Facts are the facts as much as they seem to always hurt the dumbest members of Leafs Nation.
