The real problem with the Leafs isn’t the medical staff. It’s the fact that they absolutely suck donkey cock at drafting and developing players. When great teams get hit by injuries, they have a next man up attitude. You think Tampa Bay, Vegas, Colorado or Florida haven’t had some injuries? Of course they have. The difference is they have depth and a system that works when the next guy up is plugged into the roster.

How many drafted players do the above teams have on their current roster that they drafted? Florida 7 maybe, 2 or 3 are real impact players. Vegas 3? They were gifted a good team and extra picks and traded for everyone. All the teams above have traded away many of their first rounders over the years for high impact players. The leafs simply havent been able to do that and when it does occur, they rarely keep the player or they disappear to injuries.
The leafs problem is they paid marner and matthews simply too much in the beginning which has screwed them for years. Now they put money into other players who simply arent good either. Its poor cap allocation and asset management.

Shanny’s first 5 years were pretty good. I did make some big positive changes for the leafs and how they were viewed around league and they were able to sign the biggest FA in sport at that time. The team looked like a genuine cup contender.
But Dubas was horrible at negotiating contracts and gave in to Matthews and marner who didnt earn or deserve those contracts at the time. Then for the final 5 years, Shanny refused to budge on the core 3. One of Marner or Nylander needed to be moved out for another type of star player.
But they werent.
Dubas giving whiny marner a NTC/NMC clause was another big mistake.
Tre almost changed the leafs franchise had marner accepted a trade to the Canes for Rantanen…that would have great improved the team. But it didnt happen and Tre made the ultimate mistake of trading two 1st round picks and quality prospects for a 3rd liner and 4th dman.
The 2026 1st rounder should never have been in play.
The leafs have Captain who doesnt seem to care that much
So many injuries and goalies who are not repeating the level of success they had last year (it short spurts they have)
A team that looks disorganized and continues to no show in games (am ongoing issue for the pat 6 years)
Now we have a coach that is trying to force a system on players who cant play it and a GM who simply isnt up for the task of making this team successful.

So the Leafs have placed Joshua and Tanev on to the LTIR. That’s 7M extra in potential cap space.

They have no assets to trade to acquire anyone of use. Plus you can no longer be above the cap in the playoffs….like the panthers have been for the past two years.for me, you are punting the issue to a later date with no protection on the pick.
If the Leafs can finish between the 11th and 16th pick would be better IMO.

Bottom out for a top five pick or simply sell any FA’s.
Laughton for a 2nd – which is all he should have been traded for all you’re going to get now.
Maccelli – 3rd
Jarnkrok – 4th or 5th

Hopefully, he doesnt move any more picks or young players this year. Just sit tight or move out vets for picks/prospects.Id still prefer this leafs team finish in the bottom 5 to push our 1st out another year.

It really was. No point in comparing our offseason to the Dodgers, they just do whatever TF they want. Compared to just about every other team in the league, the Jays killed it. Run with this team, see what needs to be tweaked around the trade deadline, then target guys to fill those holes.
It takes a lot of things to go your way to get to the big show, and a lot went right for the Jays last year. Hopefully, they can spark that magic again for another run.[/quote]
