I am a bit leery on taking a highly touted American out west based on recent events. I want a guy that wants to be here and wants to stay. I also see that in Verhoeff.

I don’t think losing a 26 year old Goalie with a career.882 save % on waivers is the end of the world if it actually happens. There will be far better Goalies available on the waiver wire than Tolopilo guaranteed.

I’m hoping Caleb Malholtra is a smoke screen. I’ll be genuinely shocked if he goes 3rd with the brief success he’s enjoyed. I’m also not the biggest fan of the Cootes pick. He has been pretty vanilla the 5 or so times I saw him play against the Royals. But he also had no talent surrounding him until he joined Prince Albert. So you never know even if you sorta do.

Verhoeff is my guy this year. There’s enough depth in this draft to get a decent C later. Or trade Hronek for one.
