ParticipantHire me!!! I couldn’t do any worse than the last 10 GM’s. First thing I’d fix is getting the best scouts available, hiring them away with cash from MLS&E. Second, get the best coach available at the end of the season. I’d auction Matthews off to the highest bidder. Nylander, same thing. Any dumb GM’s that want a 3rd or 4th liner, I’d make them pay a premium, once I upsold them. What pisses me off about Treliving, is the value added trades. Instead of just sending the 1st rounder for a Laughton, they throw in a prospect. The young Russian that had potential, or a Fraser Minton to Boston in the Carlo deal. Having those two might have salvaged the season this year, but no, they’re going to be playing the playoffs with their new teams. It’s a fucking travesty and it’s been the policy for too many decades. Now we sit and watch as the team sinks to the depths of the standings, with no draft capital, and long term high end contracts. Hire me MLS&E! I’ll have you back in the playoffs in 3 years!!!
The best scouts available can’t make picks if the picks get traded. The best scouts in the world can’t develop players. Or sign them to contracts. Or trade them. Or coach them.
Reality is, without the absolute best President of Hockey Ops. + GM, this franchise is doomed to mediocrity with zero accountability coming from fans who consistently reward failure.
Remember when Leafs ticket prices drastically spiked this year? Did that positively change a damn thing on the ice?

Participantif so SELL SELL SELLL Mortamor! SELLLLLLLLLL
Have to fire Treliving first.
Even if Treliving did decide to sell, I don’t trust him to make the best deals.
He’s a retard who should be making terrible food at Boston Pizza.

ParticipantCarlo take a holding penalty.
het sits for 2 or less
power kill for da Leaafsit was killed
Leafs are good at the PK because they basically play on the PK when they’re 5 on 5. They’re just adjusted to being in their own zone, collapsing on their own net for survival.
3-0.
Leafs need another miracle to salvage points.
Building filled with the same retards who booed Marner should get a head start home before they get snowed in. Hope the building is completely empty for the 3rd period.

ParticipantSo you you would not trade Cowan for Wright. got it
I’d prefer to keep Cowan and add Wright but Wright has more value than Cowan, not as small, has proven he can score in the NHL for example. Cowan might have a better overall work ethic.

ParticipantThe Jays lost out on Bo, Tucker and Bellinger so the Jays won’t be able to outscore their problems next year. So Plan B is just going to have to be to outpitch everybody.
Step one, trade Berrios. With the money he is making, you could bring back Bassitt or Scherzer and with some luck, maybe both.
Scherzer is starting to look like a “wait and see” signing. The Jays could cut to the chase and lock him in now, or they could wait and risk losing him later. I’d rather reel him in now because he’s like an extra pitching coach for Yesavage to be around as he plays a full season for the first time in the MLB. That, alone, would be worth the contract.
Next, they should take the money they were willing to spend on Bo / Tucker and bring in Valdez who is a big impact lefty that the Jays really need. Get Vlad Jr. to spin some D.R. magic. If the Jays end up losing one of Gausman or Bieber next year, they can rely on still having an elite lefty long term. The same logic was applied for signing Cease. Cease, Valdez, Gausman (or Bieber), Yesavage is still a strong long term rotation.
Cease, Valdez and Gausman are your guaranteed starters then Bieber, Yesavage, Scherzer and Bassitt can platoon between 4th, 5th, 6th and the bullpen. Bieber is coming off Tommy John, Yesavage is a rookie, Scherzer is old and Bassitt is up there in age too. A lot more teams, including the Dodgers, have used 6 man rotations to keep their arms fresh and healthy. The Jays would be wise to do the same. Keep the older guys fresh and give Yesavage room for error. For the playoffs, the best 3 guys start and the rest hit the bullpen, just like they did last year.

ParticipantWow.
Marner does nothing in a big game. No surprise.
The leafs dont show up in a big game. No surprise.Marner on a 1st place team while the Leafs are wild card pretenders? No surprise.
Three things can be true, Marner is a soft reg season points getter who disappears when it counts and the leafs still have a team of no shows led by Captain rarely lays in on the line and management has been horrible with allocating cap.
Hey retard, you know what is ACTUALLY true? Marner has more playoff points than Tavares, Nylander and Matthews. You know who showed up vs. the Florida Panthers? Marner, Matthews and Knies. You know who did not? Tavares, Nylander, Rielly and Carlo.
I see the little insecure boy is still on here spewing his maga empty headed nonsense.
I see Carney Cuck boy has to bring it back to politics like a hive minded libtard.
Dummy: “the leafs don’t need marner to win”
Us: Objectively proves Marner was one of the most important players to the Leafs success
Dummy: “Leafs are better off being wild card pretenders”Fixed.
What a low life moron.
Yes, you certainly are retard.
Marner would have costed the leafs $14m to stay – but he didnt want to…HE DIDNT WANT TO.
He didn’t want to leave or he’d be in Carolina. He left because this management team used him as a scapegoat, through the media they own and the violent (car jacked), threatening (doxxed address), retard fans (you), ran him out of town.
So far he has 52pts
Roy, Maccelli, and Joshua cost about $9.2m and have 48pts together and the leafs still have $5m available. So toss in JT and his 44pts at $4.3m
So for $13.5m the leafs have 92pts from 5 players or they could have had 52pts from one player. Now not saying all the above are the best way to spend $9.2m but its not the worse.
Your math doesn’t math at winning hockey games. If McDavid scores 120 points for 12 million and 3 other players combined score 50 points each for 12 million, you still want McDavid. Putting together a collection of 3rd line plugs does not equate to an elite player. You can’t put three 3rd line plugs on the PP in place of Marner and big fucking surprise the Leafs PP has been total dog shit. If that were the case, the Leafs could trade Matthews for three 3rd liners and save cap space but they’d be a lottery team. Fuck you even think about hockey like a communist.
CommyPartofMe: From each according to his ability, to each according to his needs.
Had the leafs been healthier this season they would be in a playoff spot.
The Leafs weren’t healthy last year either. Did your retard brain forget that Matthews was useless for almost half the season, they had plenty of injuries in net last year too. But guess what? Marner led the team with 100+ points, 1st in the division and was a leader in taking Florida to Game 7. If they still had him, their PP would be top 10 and they’d be in 1st place. Without him, they are back to being a dog shit wild card pretender.

ParticipantWould you trade Cowan for Wright?
I’d trade Robertson or Maccelli for him but Seattle wouldn’t want that either.
They want a proven top-six winger, not another small rookie winger.
Leafs are the worst team in the entire NHL for goals allowed off giveaways.
Already getting pumped 2-0.
They are SO BACK…to normal…

ParticipantJust a reminder of how much the Leafs actually suck…
Under the category of total shot attempts differential, the Leafs are -357, good for 29th. They have 2,247 total shot attempts for which is 23rd overall. They have 2,604 shot attempts against which is 31st overall. After 51 games, it’s pretty obvious that this team is constantly chasing the game. The opponents are routinely taking more shots at the Leafs net than they give up to the Leafs.
For context, the best 4 teams last year in shot attempt differential was Carolina (Eastern Conference Finalist), Florida (Cup Champions), Edmonton (Cup Finalist) and Colorado (best team in the NHL this year). In 2023/2024 the best four teams were Carolina, Florida (Champs), Edmonton (Finalist) and Los Angeles.
Unsurprisingly, this year, the best four teams in shot attempt differential are Carolina, Colorado, Utah and Tampa Bay. Coincidence that 3 of the 4 are 1, 2 and 3 in the overall standings?
Quiet clearly, there is a pattern here. Successful teams and true contenders (Champions) shoot at their opponents more than their opponents shoot back at them.
It’s not rocket appliances but the Leafs just absolutely suck balls at being able to control the game and are incapable of outshooting their opponents on a regular basis. I don’t know if Carolina will ever be able to get over their playoff hump but if Rod Brind’Amour ever becomes available, the Leafs should spend every single possible dollar to get him under contract. His system is the only thing that gives his team a chance to compete and similarly could give this group of players a shot at contending. Berube aren’t going to cut it. This is the wrong group of guys for him to succeed with.

ParticipantI concur. It’s time to sell. Looking at the standings, plus the injuries on this team, it looks like this season is toast. There’s good effort out there, but they just don’t have enough to get over the top. All of the early games were squandered, mostly at home. So many points lost in overtime and shootouts. The Leafs never really addressed a second line winger. Their best assets are all in goal right now and it’s time to move Stolarz. I’m not saying that Stolarz isn’t the 3rd string goaltender, it’s about his age and having him under contract for a few more years giving their trading partner cost certainty. Players like Carlo and McMann are great bargaining chips and should be looked at as assets for trades. The Leafs need to get younger and get some draft capital back. Tank now and get a top 5 pick is a must. The Leafs could rebound like Boston, if they stop procrastinating and make meaningful trades now. Time has pretty much run out and looking at their schedule, it’s gloomy. Too many West Coast trips and by the time they get back from the Olympic break, they’re basically dead in the water. Time to start the retool, not the burn it to the ground and start again foolishness.
Unfortunately the Leafs played too well for a 15 game stretch and now they BeLeaf they can be a wild card pretender.
It will be impossible for them to tank into the bottom 5 unless they lose 7 out of 10 games the rest of the way. It’s the same as hoping they can win 7 out of every 10 games games to make the playoffs.
Nothing good can or will happen until Treliving is fired. He is the new JFJ.
Unholy_Goalie
ParticipantThe Leafs should sell. They won’t, but they should.
1000%. Full tear down rebuild.
