Improving the forums here would also help convince more people to come along for the ride.

    ~senstrolltwo

I’m so confused. I was lead to believe that Chief hated Nylander and he was imminently being shipped out of town! I don’t know what to believe anymore.

Tre was asked today -“Can you say for certain that MM and JT will be offered contracts.” His answer was No
    ~Azure

Marner gone, 100%. JT already stated in his interview that there had been talks and he was confident a deal would/could get done.

Well with posters getting banned, blogs being deleted, the minimum he should do/have done is send a message about it.

I think the move here for everyone should be permanent.

So its Tre and Berubes who will guide the ship…where it goes…we will see
    ~senstrolltwo

I have complete confidence in the two of them and I’m very optimistic for the future. Florida is going to plateau or get worse, other teams will improve too, but the Leafs have all the pieces they need and a little flexibility with cap space and moveable contracts.

    Let Tre cook.

Don’t want take anything from Leafs, but Florida did not show up for the first 2 games, especially Bobrobsky.
    ~AlexTML

Precisely this. We caught them flat footed, and even though the Leafs won the first two, the games weren’t blowouts at all. Florida was hanging in there but the Leafs just managed to get a few clutch goals at the perfect times.

No its not. I know you dont like facts but marner had 1 assist in the final 4 games against the panthers and 2 assist in the final 3 games against Ottawa.
For $11m he disappears when games count.
In 2023 he had 1 assist in the final 3 games against boston
In 2022 he had 1 assist and 1 goal in the final 3 games against Florida…he showed up for one game
In 2021 he had 2 assist in the final 3 games….technically final 4 games against tampa
In 2020 he had 1 assist in the final 3 games….technically final 4 games against Montreal
Horrible stats for an $11m player….even worse for if he wants $13m

These are facts. So what was previous said was FACTUALLY correct.
    Once again…you are not.
    ~Fakepartofme

LOL, Marner made one 4ft pass in game six but was otherwise invisible, and homers acting like he put the team on his back and carried them to the win. I don’t know why I even bother responding to some folks.

8 years, 13.16 AAV. Kampf has been traded for future considerations to accommodate the increase.
    ~UG

That’s a hard pass for me. Can’t be paying a guy 15% of the cap to disappear when the games mean something*

*Yes, I understand we’re paying 2 other players that kind of money to have the same results, but what’s done is done.

    I like it.

I’ve actually been talking to Bill Metlzer about contributing here so maybe some of our Habs friends will join us on the Island.

Some context for the upcoming free agent spend-off …

    Nylanders 11.5M on a $88M cap translates to …

    12.5M on a 95.5M cap
    13.6M on a 104M cap
    14.8M on a 113M cap

Next summer, if McDavid signs an extension, it’s going to be north of $17M. His current % would translate to $18.8M.
    ~Lawsie

Marner walking will open up just about all the cap space we need to sign him, then. Sacrifice next season for a Cup in 27. Plus, he’ll take AT LEAST a 50% hometown discount.

    But they aren’t.
Didnt win the division and had the leafs not choked again, they’d be playing the canes.
    ~Fakepartofme

You cannot possibly be serious. Florida didn’t win the division because Barkov and Tkachuk were injured, Ekblad was suspended for 1/4 of the season, and, quite frankly, they probably coasted for most of the season knowing they could just turn it on at any point in the playoffs.

The Leafs didn’t choke, Florida just pounded them into oblivion like they did to Tampa, like they’re doing to Carolina, and like they’ll do to whoever comes out of the West.

Florida is head and shoulders above just about every team in the league. The Leafs need major upgrades to compete on that level, but there really isn’t much out there in this year’s UFA class that is going to move the needle enough. Marner is gone, but paying him $14M wasn’t going to be the answer either. Next year is likely going to be a step backwards, but I’m curious to see what Tre cooks up.
