Participantcough**the Kessel trade**cough….
that what that trade makes me think of somewhat.
the leafs trade 2 unknown unprotected 1sts, which is a lot worse.
the habs 2 picks are known. also as per puckpedia those 2 picks are worth #6 overall. if you do the pick math thing.senstrolltwo
Participantwhere are people seeing anything about Marchand and the leafs?

ParticipantI know you want to view this trade as a W for the Habs but let’s not forget Dobson was a -16 last year and before you say “he was on a terrible Islanders team” he was +12 the year before on that same terrible team. I have no idea why as I don’t watch the Islanders but you have to wonder why to some degree. Maybe last year was a blip, Habs fans will be hoping so but the pressure will ramp up for this kid now coming to Montreal riding a newly signed 9.5M contract per year.
As a neutral observer IMO neither team is a winner (or loser) in this yet. That won’t be clear until Dobson starts to play with the Habs and the Islanders get their new winger onboard and playing and make their draft picks (and to your point they pan out or don’t) we just really don’t know yet.
I don’t disagree from a strategy perspective this is a deal that makes sense for Montreal but it’s a risk (as is any trade).
i wouldn’t put much into Dobson plus minus.
at 5v5 he was +3 , hes out with empty net so get a lot of minuses. dumb stathis stats slipped last season, but the team as a whole did
I hate liking this move for the scabs

ParticipantWOW. UG going to blow his mind with this deal.
I thought his AAV would be higher by 1~2 M.
Now find a 2LW to play with him. ????????oh yeah that donkey will hate it, so thats how you know its a solid signing
I thought it would have to be 5 or 6 years to get it close to 5.Mitch will want 15 or 16 now from the leafs since JT left 2 mil on the table, Mitch is running fast to scoop it up

ParticipantGood deal. $4.38m per? That’s great.
4.38 per
also, so pretty much best case scenario here.

Participantoh I know that, but another reason for me to question Tre moves.
Would be nice if they could move Rielly and get some assets. but thats a dream world

ParticipantDobson on the move to Montreal or Columbus?
Please gawd, not Montreal.
yeah..ugh
Tre gets Carlo and Laughton …but should be targeting players like Dobson

Participantreally wish the Leafs were able to get Dobson
25yo top pair rhd ..good defense.senstrolltwo
ParticipantThere is no world where knies should get more than Peterka on a 5 year deal, if so than Tre needs to be removed.
Knies had one 50+ pt season with 29 goals
Peterka has had two, along with two seasons of 27 and 28 goals WITHOUT playing with Matthews.
Knies should get 5 x 7m max.oh I agree
But also, at the time Marner shouldnt have gotten 10.9 when all the comps were under 10
senstrolltwo
Participantanyone see this
Frank Seravalli: If it’s an 8 year deal for Matthew Knies, it’s going to be north of 10; it’s probably going to end up being a 5 year deal – DFO Rundown
ok then.
peterka just got 5 x 7.7 ..so I guess around that thensenstrolltwo
Participantinteresting wrinkle
PuckPedia
With word that in new CBA contracts will be limited to 7 years to re-sign or 6 years w/ new team, there’s a big choice for ‘26 free agents:Sign 8 years with their current team from July 1 until next June 30, otherwise they can only sign for 6 years if they go to market July 1

ParticipantSwayman would be a good move for Edmonton if he was available. But i dont know why Boston would move him now after just signing him
