The should have more cap space than they ever have. Another top 6 forward is prob the need. but other needs might pop up half way into the season1st round picks should be off limits going forward. This Leafs team could be thrown into a full rebuild really fast and the last thing they need is another Kessel situation where they have a lottery team and no draft pick.
So. What do they need to add to Robertson in a deal for Rickard Rakell? Kampf for salary, Hildeby and the first 2028? Not sure they have the assets for it without giving up Cowan which would likely be a mistake.
The Penguins are not trading their #1 goal scorer before the season starts with Crosby still on the team. If the Penguins really suck and blow it up at the deadline, then it might happen. But it’s not going to happen now.
And they’d need to add A LOT more than Robertson to make that happen. Probably Cowan and/or a 1st round pick, neither of which the Leafs can afford to trade for a poor man’s version of Nylander with bad playoff stats to boot.

Yes, he’s younger, he’s bigger, he’s a fast skater, he’s still in his prime and he costs 25% of what Jarnkrok costs. Formenton was out of the league for a contract dispute and then this shit popped up, not because he’s a bad player. He came from the London Knights system, he’s a solid player on the 4th line and has scored 18 before so he can score too. Jarnkrok is broken, old, small, overpaid and useless in the playoffs. I’ll have to disagree with you on this. Legit, if ANY player in the NHL had charges brought against them, they would be immediately suspended. There probably is a “out” clause in every pro sports contract for cases like this. Players in the NBA and NFL get suspended all the time for legal issues.
I also don’t think the players would be successful in suing the league for lost wages. The NHLPA is obviously fighting for them, and they may land some kind of settlement, but that’s about the best they can hope for IMO.
Do I think these players should have the opportunity to return to the NHL? Yes. Will I be pissed if the Leafs inquire about any of them? Also yes. Will I ridicule Oiler fans relentlessly if they stoop to the level of signing any one of these guys. Absolutely, yes.

The Leafs would be a better team with McLeod at league minimum than with Kampf. Same goes with Formenton at league minimum over Jarnkrok. Foote is better than having no RHD at all on the 3rd pair and he’s better than Myers too. Dube is a small skill guy but he’d fit in the top-6. He’s got a better history of scoring than Maccelli does, that’s for damn sure.
If the Leafs have the opportunity to improve the team by signing these guys for cheap contracts, they’d be stupid not too and so would anybody being pissy about the team improving over a bunch of bullshit they were NOT GUILTY for.

There are two sets of decisions, one in court and one by the league and teams.
The judge’s decision came down to her conclusion that EM was not drunk enough or afraid enough to invalidate her consent. The actions of the players was not in question.
The league and teams will decide simply on the basis of their behaviour. Do they believe that behaviour reflects the “highest standards of morality, honesty, fair play and sportsmanship and is not detrimental to the best interests of the team, league and professional hockey” as required in player contracts. I don’t think it’s obvious that Gary says yes. The fact that they’re fairly marginal players shouldn’t matter but probably will. The PA will appeal and who knows how long it might get drawn out. If they are allowed to play will any team sign them?

The actions by these players happened SEVEN YEARS ago when they were in their late teens. They aren’t the same people anymore. They haven’t done anything “immoral” since even though that’s a stupid standard to have because morality is vague and different for everyone. There are people who think having children out of wedlock or divorce is immoral. We going to ban all those players? If they were found guilty, there might be an argument for a brief suspension but they were found not guilty. They have been out of the league for a long time. Consider that time served and let them resume their careers. 1) The initial police investigation(Which was half assed)
2) Hockey Canada
3) The crown prosecutor that decided to try the case based of a civil settlement that the players didnt even know about.The judge did everything but come out and call her a liar.
These guys had their names dragged through the mud and likely have permanent harm to their reputation when they did nothing wrong but party with the wrong.
The NHL is now saying they are ineligible to play because they has consensual sex with a woman. Guess they will need to shut the league down and suspend 99% of the players. My assumption at this point is consensual sex with a man puts you in a marginalized group and that then makes it ok.
