Big ?s for the year:
* How does a healthy Matthews perform?
* Who do Leafs pick up as top 6 addition?
* Does Nylander take another step?
* Does Knies?
* Does D stay healthy?
* Does Cowan push out a more expensive forward?
* Can we stop talking about Marner?October 7, 2025 at 12:01 pm #39904Dozzer

* Can we stop talking about Marner?1: I assume he will, he’s looking healthy again
2: depends which team has a shit season I guess
3: he’s capable, are his linemates?
4: hopefully Domi shoots enough so Knies can bang them home
5: he’ll get some NHL time, how much is my ?

ParticipantI read that Chief is trying Domi 3C. I am not a fan of that – Domi not good enough d-side of the puck for that role (he definitely has the speed though). Leafs should also want him rolling with Matthews right from jump – so start Game 1.
Also the fact it’s Laughton out so just replace the 4C slot and don’t disrupt the flow. Jarnkrok may not be ideal but he is a centre as well as wing. He has played in the league long enough and taken enough reps to be fine when insulated on a 4th with 4th minutes. Especially a Berube system of simple straight line hockey for that line…and Lorentz and Blais forechecking with pace Jarnkrok is responsible to play low & dots in the dzone.
Knies-Matthews-Domi
McMann-Tavares-Nylander
Joshua-Roy-Maccelli
Lorentz-Jarnkrok-BlaisRielly-Carlo
McCabe-Tanev
Benoit-OELStolarz
PrimeauI hope for the Buds McMann uses his frame this year. I personally am not a fan and I know I may catch heat here – but I’d not have him dressed over Robertson. McMann is probably a tick better defensively but Robertson (though not crushing) seems to play a chippier disturber game at times – this team needs anyone playing that can cause some chaos out there and drag everyone to greasiness shift by shift.

I agree with the Leafs prediction. But they need to win a lot of divisional games. With teams like MTL, OTT, FLA looking to tear a strip off them every game, I think they’ll get bogged down during the long season. If they have any major injuries (Tanev/Stolarz/Matthews/Tavares) for any extended amount of time, I think they’ll miss the playoffs.
If BOS/DET/BUF have a resurgence and are pushing for a playoff spot, it’ll only be more difficult.
Go Jays!
