ParticipantThey say it’s between Buium and Parekh, as I’ve said before whatever points a defenseman can provide is a bonus in my eyes. When all said and done i think Arty will be the best two way defenseman of all of them in this draft calls you can’t teach size and explosive first steps in every direction.
Like Rinzel he may be the best defenseman from that draft calls, another big dman with great skating ability.

ParticipantMostly agree with you Ricochet. Buium reminds me of Dougie Hamilton. Lots or PP points, but really a #5 defenseman. Demidov will be flashy and put up points. Unfortunately, I don’t see any resemblance to Datsyuk other than he’s Russian. Will be a defensive liability as he’s already shown. Lev will end up a #1 RHD against the strongest opponents within the next 2 years, and putting up points. Kind of a Seabrook+. 3 years away from a top 3 for the Norris.
Demidov doesn’t strike me as a 2 way player. All Lev has to do is be as good as Viktor Hedman. I’m finding my posts go through better on phone than laptop.

ParticipantRemember the Savard for Chelios trade, how did that turn out? All things being equal, I’ll take the defenseman. By the way, it looks like Kaiser is in camp, not signed yet that I’m aware of.

Yes it did, and after that trade Chelios was more valuable than Savard. Loved Savard and glad he got his cup. Good seeing you here.

where that IQ
Like Rinzel he may be the best defenseman from that draft calls, another big dman with great skating ability. The IQ Buium showed as a true freshman at U of Denver (think they won it all) was near off the charts and it looked like he matured physically to where his IQ was put into action. IMO no higher IQ Dman in that draft than Buium. Good chance to be a real difference maker in the Bigs. …. But, IMO drafting Lev was the right thing to do.
Watched a lotta Parekh for 2 yrs in Major Junior. This kid has enormous offensive upside and profiles just like Karlsson. A Dman who can pop 80 pts in the Bigs but man, like Karlsson, is defense is terrible and he has a slight frame. I take Buium, Dickinson, Artie ahead of Parekh probably even Yaremchuk too…… Never know, kids grow into things that are hard to predict but I can’t see him as being anything but a soft borderline pts machine.

Hey Wiz, really glad to see you made it over. Always enjoyed your hockey thoughts…… IMO Buium and Hamilton are night5 and day. In fact, I thought Rinzel’s ceiling profiled Hamilton (until this last yr when he showed excellent poise, awareness and has become pretty good in his own zone with room to grow still) since they drafted him. Buium’s IQ means he makes plays all over the ice with and without the puck. Dougie at best is a top points producer, valuable, but a bit too one D dimensional whereas Buium impacts the game on every inch of ice.
Simply said Demidov has the most insane puck possession hands/skill along with insane IQ since Datsyuk. Not good, not great, not elite but insane. I haven’t seen those traits in one player until Demidov. ,,,,, Taking Arty over Demidov is like stopping at the hardware store before you go to the candy store. That’s the way to build even though IMO Demidov has rare skill/IQ….. I’ll tell you what, in 5 yrs in a game 7 I’m petrified if Demidov is on the ice. .. He takes being dangerous to another level.

ParticipantWhere do I send site improvement suggestions?
I am also trying to help someone ( Wiz from HB ) who is having trouble getting signed in here. Is there a HHS tech person for signup problems, etc?I’m sure you read it from me before, but i had issues for a week until i figured out the email to sign up was going to my Spam folder. Once i found it, i got right in.
Also, quotes seems to be working for me if i highlight the post, then hit quote

ParticipantSince we are talking Defenseman, I want to point out for all those who didn’t live with us over at HB, i have been predicting Rinzel being the best player of all the dmen drafted, including Arty and i’m including Vlasic in that as well. Initial reports saying he’s a man among boys at the rookie camp.
Time will tell, but when i saw him play and skate at his size two World Jrs ago, I could see the potential. I had not seen him play before that, and was shocked how he was like #6 or 7 dman when the tourney started, and was first pair by the gold medal game. That big and that skating is rare.

ParticipantThere’s been a lot of talk about Artyom Levshunov, Zeev Buium, Zayne Parekh, and Ivan Demidov lately. My take? It’s still way too early to compare them. Outside of a few games for Arty, none of them have really played in the NHL yet.
Each comes from a different background — Arty and Buium out of the NCAA, Parekh from the CHL, and Demidov from the KHL. I watched all of them last season, and like any prospects, they all had stretches of ups and downs. That’s normal. Development isn’t a straight, linear path — it’s full of peaks and valleys.
That’s why NHL teams are investing millions into development staffs. The real test is how these players adapt — the speed of the game, their decision-making, their consistency. Until then, we have to let things play out before declaring who’s better.
Fans will debate Demidov vs. Arty for years, and that’s fine. Personally, I’ve seen every Demidov game last year — he’s a special talent. But I’m also comfortable with the Blackhawks’ choice. If Levshunov develops properly, he’ll be a cornerstone defenseman and that’s worth the pick.
And don’t forget Sam Rinzel. He’s a perfect example of a player who quickly figured out what it takes to play at the NHL level. I fully expect him to be in the Calder Trophy conversation all year. For me, instead of Demidov vs. Arty, the real storyline might be Arty vs. Rinzel.
All in all, the Blackhawks’ scouting staff deserves credit. In the last few years, they’ve built a prospect pool that looks like the foundation of a contending team. Have agreed great weekend of hockey…

ParticipantFrom Bamford’s article, Hawks prospects were practicing a 1-3-1 PP setup. The two units:
Jack Pridham
Ryan Greene — Oliver Moore — Nick Lardis
Sam RinzelMarek Vanacker
Nathan Behm — AJ Spellacy — Aidan Thompson
Artyom LevhsunovSomething to watch for this weekend.

ParticipantThe Lev-Demidov dynamic reminds me of the Bedard-Michkov arguments for that years draft. Funny thing is I hear no one comparing Celebrini and Demidov, even on Montreal boards
