Nothing to read much into though. A bunch of lines that won’t be playing in the reg season. Not great to see EDM struggle so much. Soda being a brick wall was nice to see.

For sure. There were not any “OMG” jumps from the youngsters, woulda been nice.
Soda still kinda swimmy and some rebounds seemed kinda off. Thankfully he looked like last year Soda and not ’23/24 Soda.
EDM and Arty showed us why Gryz is here.

That last goal is completely on Bedard for a garbage turnover win his own zone.

With a devil may care attitude, Chunk. The turnover was weak the “attempt” to get the puck back was pathetic. … Bedard looked the same to me except he’s a tad thicker. .

Watching last night one thing was obvious team speed is nice but the team that played with more discipline and structure won last night. Something i hope Blashill instills in the team.

Well that kind of depends, doesn’t it? After a turnover in your own zone, what are his responsibilities? If I had to guess, he’s not allowed to just chase the puck all over the zone until he gets it back. It was bad, but it’s also preseason playing with a bunch of guys he hasn’t much in practice and who likely won’t be with the club to start the year.

Point it out, learn, and move on…

I want to see how he does with Burakovsky and Donato. I’ll also hold any judgement on Nazar until I see him back with TT and Bertuzzi. They both looked very disjointed and unsure to me yesterday.

As is normally the case. The most disappointing thing to me yesterday was that Blashill said he wants to get everyone shooting more. There were more deferrals yesterday than at a college admissions office.

I like Dach, but I don’t think he’ll be much more than a bottom sixer. I just don’t think he can play at the higher pace. (not just based on this game)
Outside of the chance in the 1st, Reichel was invisible to me.
Lafferty is still where puck possession goes to die.
Kaiser seemed to be the most effective defenseman. I think he’s a great partner for Arty.
If this is Soda’s standard game and not the exception, the Hawks are going to be in good hands in net this year.

Soda’s been solid for awhile now in games where he limits the rebound chances. He does a great job of squaring up the shooter to make himself big but when he moves his body upward in doing so, his pads go from slightly inward downfacing (which causes the puck to go downward) to flat so if the puck hits his pads while he’s in the motion of squaring up, he’s extremely vulnerable to giving up juicy nuggies on the doorstep.

It’s sad to say but it looks like Reichel is just continues to be a floater when he’s on the ice

It’s crazy that he has such good speed and refuses to use it defensively.

Now that’s the one timer I’ve been waiting to see from Bedard. Glad they finally figured it out

Bedard looked great other than the turnover. Best forward on the ice last night for us.

He did look good. I’m not at all concerned about Bedard’s offense. Especially when he finally gets some actual NHL line mates (which I think Burakovsky can be a really good one as long as he stays healthy). The nice things to see from him last night were the improved back checking, 70% FO, and actually engaging on defense. It wasn’t perfect by any means, but definitely better than what we saw last year.

It’ll likely be ugly to start, but should get notably better as the year progresses.

Toews played his 1st game w/ Winnipeg last night.
    I watched some highlights.
He got back nicely to spoil a breakaway. Also had a nice low angle attempt after a faceoff win.

All comes down to how his body holds up. Interested to how much they manage his workload.

Well, they played decent in the first period, then it was Colliton bad after that. Can’t worry after one preseason game, many of these guys will be in Rockford or back in Juniors. Bedard was definitely the best player on the ice, the rest besides Soda were meh.

EDM and Arty showed us why Gryz is here.

This was my immediate takeaway, MH. Grz is a lock to make the roster and eat 20:00 a night for this squad. And that’s ok. And it’s ok that 19 yr old Artie needs lotsa games and reps down at RKF. IMO EDM is the least of my worries. Dude is solid enough to be a useful NHLer. He’ll be asked to take shifts above his experience/skill and like most of the roster slotted up too high the lineup.

The Blackhawks have re-assigned Marek Vanacker, Jack Pridham, Nathan Behm and Parker Holmes back to their junior teams.

Hey Dots, listened to the radio side and Wiedeman said Bedard shaved a couple inches off his stick to help with faceoffs. I think that’s a big reason he got good wood on his 1 timer goal. Generally speaking the shorter the stick the easier it is to make solid contact and you’re more accurate, AND get a shot of a tick quicker but you give up some whip. ….. Add in it’s helpful for faceoffs I’m all for The Phenom using a shorter stick.
