ParticipantBesides isn’t that exactly what KD did with Kirby Dach?
Trading Dach away while he was young was part of the tank process and it happened over 3 years ago.
The (major home run) return for Dach is already in the NHL.
KK is part of the rebuild process. Trading him now likely nets you picks or a project just like KK.I have not seen any wild guesses, what do people think KK is worth in a trade right now?
If they can get a high first rounder like they did for Kirby Dach, then go right ahead. (unlikely for the 2026 draft due to the presumed draft strength?)
Otherwise, my choice would be, don’t give up until he is toast.September 25, 2025 at 10:37 pm #37805totem
ParticipantSeptember 25, 2025 Windsor 4, Sudbury 0 — prospect notes
Windsor mostly controlled the play but Sudbury was only down 1-0 into the 3rd before giving up some late goals.
Ethan Belchetz Windsor Spitfires 30-Mar-08 6-5 227 LW (2026 eligible, Wiz #5)
Belchetz is a huge winger who is expected to go in the top 10 in the 2026 draft. What was on display tonight was his ability to skate and control the puck. He is fast for his size and has very good agility. He had several rushes carrying the puck in, and was also able to control possession in the offensive zone. Retained possession through checking attempts by the defense. Had several chances and ended up with one assist on the night. Size and agility show out and make clear why he will be a top pick. Will be interesting to watch as the season develops and the games get more physical. 56-17-21-38 last year in Windsor and is at a point-per-game pace early in the current season.Jean-Christoph Lemieux Windsor Spitfires 19-Jun-08 6-0 187 LC (2026 eligible, Wiz #80)
Mid-sized but thick center who is willing to go into the corners and behind the net to retrieve the puck in the offensive zone. Hit the post on one early rush and later dug out a puck in the corner and made a pass in front that resulted in a goal. Active and has good speed. 1 assist on the night. 46-9-10-19 last year for Windsor and 4 points in 3 games so far this year.Beksultan Makysh Windsor Spitfires 24-May-08 5-10 157 LW (2026 eligible)
Makysh (pronounced like ma-KEESH) is a small forward who showed impressive puck handling skills on several occasions in this game. Able to maneuver and control the puck in tight areas in the offensive zone. Used his speed to nearly get a breakaway. Ended with one assist. Not currently ranked but if he can continue to show offensive skill might move up and be picked in the 2026 draft. Will need to add size as he moves up to higher leagues. Over 2 ppg last year in 16U AAA and scored well in international play for Khazakstan. 4 points in 3 games so far this year. There was some buzz around a hit that Makysh took earlier in the week from London LD Maksim Sokolovskii (various spellings). Sokolovskii is a huge defenseman at 6-8, 225, and is eligible for the 2026 draft; apparently he looks for the big hit. Maybe someone to watch as the season goes on.
Caden Harvey Windsor Spitfires 13-Feb-08 6-1 181 RW (2026 eligible, Wiz #163)
Winger with good size who will go to the net and is also a good passer. Had a shot and 2 assists on the night. Agile and good on the puck carry. 95 pts in 53 games in 16U AAA last year. 5 assists in 3 games so far this season. Draft spot might depend on showing consistency through the season.Vladimir Provorov Sudbury Wolves 9-Feb-08 5-11 154 LW (2026 eligible)
Reedy center who was a big scorer in 16U AAA last year (80-37-97-134) and has an assist in 3 games this year. Was showing a responsible defensive game as Sudbury needed to keep the game close. Stays close to the net and is well positioned on defense. Showed some nice passing on offense. Moving to Ohio State for the 2027-28 season so has some time to bulk up and find his offensive game. Not ranked but if his offense begins to show then could get some consideration for the 2026 draft.2027 Eligibles:
John McLaughlin (C, Windsor, 5-9, 163) had two late goals and added an assist in this game, now 3 points in 3 games.Brayden Bennett (C, Sudbury, 5-11, 187) has some size and had several nice carries for zone entries and some good passes.
Luca Blonda (RD, Sudbury, 5-11, 174) played 65 games for Sudbury last year with 15 points.
Other:
Alex Pharand Sudbury RW was not signed by CHI but was in the TOR rookie camp.Notes log: https://hockeystew25.blogspot.com/

Really, thanks for figuring a safe raft here. There are still folks who forget the way back to buzz, who I knowand will link them up here.
Yeah, my first post Was to Frenchy where I politely jumped the line on his talking point.
So now I will stay here and try my best to not confuse.

ParticipantVery true, although I personally don’t really take draft position into account much.
I agree totally with icing the best team, going with who is better, earning TOI, and moving forward with the rebuild as is best, regardless of draft position.
re: KK, I’m specifically saying it would sting a lot more if they:
1) began the tank by trading away a 30-40 goal scorer entering his prime and,
2) used the acquired #7OA pick to draft a D-man and,
3) they spent years waiting for him to develop and,
4) they gave up on him a year or so too early and,
5) then he got good at NHL hockey soon after…..*if* all 5 of those happened (the first 3 already happened)
…that would be a harsh indictment of management, scouting, player development in RFD and CHI, et, etc.You could pass it off as “well KK 7OA and Rinzel 25OA same draft class, 1 hit 1 miss”, but man, you better be sure KK sucks before giving up.
He is still young (as I pointed out w/ the age comparisons a few posts ago)Hey MH, I really don’t think you are going to have to worry about KK getting traded. It appears that the new FO views Rockford as a place to actually develop prospects. If KK does down there (he’s supposed to work with the “NHL” group today) they will push him to break out of his bad habits. They literally said that they would be using Rockford as a place to develop players not necessarily to win the Calder Cup. Obviously, they will hope to combine those two goals, but development is first and foremost.
The only ones to even mention KK getting traded are in this forum, or a couple of the talking heads who have admitted that they are just spitballing and impatient for the Hawks to get better. If Davidson is going to trade KK, it will be because someone blew him away with an offer.

It was just me pointing out that he had no issue trading a Bowman pick just like Waddle had no problem trading Jarmos pick Jiricek.

ParticipantChunk, I agree Lev has never really shown an above average IQ to me and that’s going back to watching him in the USHL and NCAA and that continues in pro. He ain’t a goof 3 times a game brain fart guy but he’s average IQ to me, although I’d say he has solid IQ in the 1/2 court Ozone game. …. And I was alerted to watch this kid from Belarus in the preseason of his first USHL season. Guys who collected a paycheck from the USHL were high on him. I didn’t quite get it the first couple times seeing him that yr but it didn’t take long to think his excellent size/skill traits that are difference making. ….. To me it would always be how far his between the ears game developed cuz this kid ain’t only really big, can really skate, has real skill in his hands and as hard as it is sometimes to see athleticism in hockey players, especially compared to other sports, you can see it with Artie.
It might have even been while he was at Michigan St that I thought at worst Artie would be a Ristoleinen. His floor. Big, rangy, athletic Dman with offensive chops but it’s between the ears that limits him. IMO Risto is a very useful player but reading a lotta Meltzer and even when he was with BUFF the fancy stat folks did not like him……. Again, Risto is a pretty useful player but it’s fair to hope the 2nd overall will be better than that.
I love Arty. I think his game and skills are awesome. I also think he is almost purely a read and react type player. I don’t think he really tries to “see” a play to be made or set anything up. I think (on offense) he just starts doing something, sees what the defense does against him and reacts to counter it.
Similarly on defense, I don’t think he’s trying to read what play the opponents are trying to set up, I think he just says to himself, I’m going to try and completely neutralize the puck carrier, and that should help my team get the puck back.
My guess is that Blashill & Co. will try to get him to be more predictable for his teammates, but that’s probably going to be the max. If I had to guess, he’ll be closer to Burns than Risto, but time will certainly tell.

ParticipantI’m encouraged to see Greene in the 4C spot at the moment. He’s paired with Dach and Lafferty at the moment, so just an outside shot at offensive production, but I’d like to see him get some run.

I have been a big critic of Arty becasue as you said in the quote, he does just that…feels confident he can rush out of position and save the day on both ends, but hurting his 5 man unit has been the result that saving the day on most of these impulses.
I thought like the Risto or Burns comparisons.
The pass of Demidov wasn’t some complusive attempt in the draft room to add a keystone defensivedefenseman.
He is Risto with a rocket pack on his equipment.
Burns started upfront at forward and had the hands and attack skills build into the switch to defenseman.
Arty can outright fly. Arty can pass and shoot on the fly, and it is obvious he poses problems to the opposition. Who doesn’t share the feeling there is lots of attack zone presence in his upcoming career? He may not be Bobby Orr, but he a future factor, once he learbns his end in the defensive scheme of things.
We can surmise via a fotune teller’s crystal ball that if the Blackhawks had seen the seamless insertion of graduate Big Sam was going to have ice water veins and rookie of the year bravado to where the team gains a possible top end RD ahead of Arty, because of Arty’s inexperience as an NHL backliner, the debate becomes “Would they have selected Demidov?
I think they are still happy with the guy they got.
Now 5 years down the pike…Arny will be an accomplished defender or a prominent attack big dee-man that teams want to acquire.

………….
Chunk, IMO every sport and position is reads. Some more so than others and other than a goalie a Dman has the most reads per game. It’s a really tough position to play especially for young players and especially if they’re not properly developed….. Rinzel’s reads in the USHL were get the puck, skate the puck up and too many times skated into a cul-du-sac into a corner with no options. His reads were to challenge 90% of the outs and get caught flat footed at the attack blueline and an odd man againsts would follow….. Those were bad reads which you can see he learned from. … His reads improved showing the IQ to do so.
Bedard’s reads were I can pass my bench into the Ozone with and without the puck 1:20 into my shift and impact the game. He sure did with odd man against over and over and over and over. Doesn’t do that much anymore. Would try and beat a Dman 1 on 1 wide and lost possession over and over and over. He learned he doesn’t have the step or moxie, yet, to beat NHL Dmen 1 on 1 so we see him check up and at least lose possession later.
Artie’s reads at the attack blueline leads to multiple odd man’s against per game. Artie’s reads in the Dzone 1/2 court as we can all see need work and are average at best, were that way in the USHL but IMO better in the NCAA…… But, get that horse rolling on the rush and if has good reads on that sequence that kid is a problem.
I loved Kaiser a couple shifts into seeing him in the USHL after finishing all 4 yrs in MN HS hockey cuz of his reads, and not only that his reads are good but really quick (processing) and he acts on them even quicker. ….. To me IQ and reads are the same thing for the most part and I use them interchangeably as I think about it to post….. Love love love Guttman’s reads. Gun to my head he had the highest IQ in the system. Can’t watch that kid play, all the way back to USHL Dubuque, and not say atta boy 17 times a game. Uncanny how often and how many of his reads reads are near perfect….. He’s just so physically limited it’s hard for him to be effective.
No matter whatever happens to Nazar I missed big time on him and I watched his 2 yrs at The Program, live. O sure kid could skate all day long, put up pts with just above average hands (finishing hands) but what the reads/IQ he showed in the Bigs last yr blew me away. He didn’t show that in the NCAA, not close. …. I wondered is he the poster child for those who proclaim some guys are better in the NHL than in college or ever jrs? Kinda player who is so sound he needs others like him to hit his ceiling, that the chaotic nature of anything below the NHL can be dominated by pure skill but much tougher to dominate for guys with real cerebral skill. I think Nazar profiles this way and I never saw it coming… Maybe Bedard does too but I haven’t seen that.
Watch the Buium kid outa MN. IQ/reads bursting out every pore and this dude can skate.
Hawks are young, man. All of KD’s draft picks are so young I don’t feel comfortable talking in absolutes about any of them but it’s fair to evaluate and prognosticate. …..

I always thought his feet were a bit slow especially in reverse kindof like Sanderson but I’m probably wrong
