    Two quick observations:

    – Tavares on the open market would have received over $7M easy. In fact, some dumb GM would have probably given him $8M. He took a huge paycut to stay in Toronto.

Montreal is a fantastic place to sit on a patio and watch the pretty ladies walk by. The talent level in this town is much higher than their hockey team.

LOL, it very much is. I go there often, but I am always amazed at the female gene pool they have going on over there.

If the Leafs had traded 2 x top 20 1st round pics & that player for Dobson with the extension you just know many Leaf fans and for sure non-leaf fans would be screaming it was an overpayment! I actually think this one is a bit of a wash right now and both teams feel like they won.

    cough**the Kessel trade**cough….

that what that trade makes me think of somewhat.

Except the leafs werent close to being a playoff team and those picks were unprotected.

Not expecting much from the Leafs this weekend. Sure, they might do something with the bottom 6, but nothing spectacular. Hopefully, they can get a team to bite on Marner’s rights, so we actually get a return on this wanker. JT’s signing is OK, although I was hoping that they could have acquired a good defensive Centre, with a 20 goal pedigree that could have pushed JT to the 3rd Centre position. Maybe it’s too soon to tell, but there is a hole that needs filling at the 3C position. I imagine when Marner walks, they’ll look at someone like Ehlers to play in the top 6. I was hoping for Boezer but the price may be too high.

It is. Lots of beautiful ladies in Montreal.
The same could be said of Toronto and Ottawa as well

Im hoping for Ekblad if available or Nate Schmidt/provorov, along with Tanev, P suter and P Kane (if he doesnt sign in Detroit). Ekblad would be our number 1 Dman and push Morgan down to 3rd line, our D would be great.

I didn’t see any UFA 2nd line centers so I’ll take JT. The good news maybe it’s a trade for like Robertson,Minten or something and JT can slide to the wing/3rd. I like his new salary for when he does begin to slide. It won’t be an anchor.

JT still put up 38 goals last year. Not saying he does the same but he was definitely a 2nd line center in the NHL.

Kinda makes sense for the Isle to trade Dobson. Not only is he just shy of 10 million a year, they likely aren’t really in contention during the first few years AND they drafted Schafer.

Also, a run on centers at the draft in the first round. 8 picks and 6 are centers.

I always feel the draft is overrated. Usually a big trade on the weekend like the Dobson one but the actual draft is quite mid.

I think that they will be trading a D and some prospects for a forward and then sign a D

Assuming Knies comes back at about ~ 7M the Leafs would have about 20.5M to spend with defence and g’tending filled out and …

    Domi-Matthews-Nylander
    Knies-JT-McMann

I don’t hate that top 6 to start. If Marner is walking and Marchand is too long/expensive then save your bullets for the trade deadline to add to the top 6. Spend a bunch on some really good 3rd liners. Maybe improve the D. Weaponize that cap space.

They have Reaves, Jarnkrok, Kampf to help fill that out already. Holmberg is RFA and so is Robertson. They pretty much have a roster IF they wanted to. I hope and believe they will make some changes but they have a lot of guys to take spots for the moment.

Personally, I can see Kampf,Jarnkrok moved. Maybe Reaves? Open up space for bringing back the likes of Patches and space for Cowan.

I can’t see anyone being interested in Reaves. If he retires his cap hit is a problem, but otherwise he’s either walking into LTIR or a Marlie that costs us $200k against the cap.

Kampf played in 1 playoff game, was -2 at 5v5 in the game, and his line was outshot 8-3. I can’t see them wanting him back. I know as a fan I don’t – for a defensive specialist, he loses too many battles and contributes too little.

Similarly it’s the second year in a row where Robertson was sat in the playoffs. I didn’t think he was awful this year, but while he isn’t good at defense, overall his line was better with him than they were without. It’s obvious the Leafs don’t want him and if I were him, I’d want out, too.

Jarnkrok . . . I mean, geez. He’s been pretty unimpressive. 30 playoff games with the Leafs, 1 goal, 3 assists and -4 at 5v5. He loses almost all his battles. Whatever it takes to jettison him, I’m for.

And Holmberg is a (sort of) tough call. You see these moments in his game where you think he might have more but then you realize he’s 26 and 95% of the time when tries to be fancy, it doesn’t work out and then he gets steamrolled for his efforts. He’s almost like a momentum machine for the other team. Realistically I think you can do better than him just about anywhere, but if they have loyalty, he could be a Marlie sitting on the depth charts.

I sincerely feel they need to get rid of all of those guys and just get a new bottom-6 that compliments Lorentz and Laughton and fits in with a higher level of compete and battle. I want them to win more puck battles than they lose – and our current bottom-6 loses WAY more puck battles than they win. And it should be noted that I am giving Laughton a fuckton of rope in this based on his previous play because he didn’t really impress in the blue & white last year.
