ParticipantI just don’t get it: we’ve been watching this same core 4 shit the bed over and over and over again, to the point where we’re (still) the laughing stock of the league, just a different brand of Maple Laffs.
We move Marner and get a serviceable 3C and our center depth is as good as it has been in years. We land a young playmaker with lots of upside for peanuts. Our D is still very good, our goaltending is still very good… we have cap space, the GM isn’t signing terrible UFA deals, and we’re in really good shape to make a trade for a bonefide top 6 winger especially if we can move out Kampf and Reaves and have all summer to do it.
Some of you just want to be miserable.
And some of you just want to pretend like whatever this team does will always work. Even though it never does.
If the “core 4” was shit, trade Rielly. He’s been here the longest. Tavares was paid the most and did nothing except destroy the cap situation and inflate the cost of everybody else and play the worse defense of any top-six forward. Nylander disappeared after Game 3 but nobody said a peep because his hair is allowed to be dry while he plays. Matthews has been a disappearing act many times, nobody cares because he scored 69 regular season goals (followed by 1 playoff goal) and seems to always have an excuse whether it’s an undisclosed injury or shitting his pants. Better than dropping his pants in public I guess.
There’s piles of shit this team force feeds it’s fans and some people just love shoveling it into their mouths, waiting for the next playoff failure and offseason of excuses. Can’t wait to see who the next scapegoat will be while the old scapegoats win Cups.

*ONE* of us just wants to be miserable. The best part is, there was NOTHING Tre could have done to keep Marner. He had one foot out the door for well over a year now. There is no amount of money he would have accepted to stay. But, might as well yell at the clouds to get the attention his parents probably never gave him.

ParticipantYup, Maccelli is going to drive the parade float himself when they sweep 16 straight to win the Cup.
Well technically they got Micelli, Roy and 7.6 mil cap space left for what Marner would take up in your fantasy world

I’m starting to wonder if UG has invested in Marner jerseys, cards, toys, etc.
I mean seriously, the guy never won anything award and never helped get the leafs past the 2nd round, this is no big loss.

But keep Tavares, Rielly, Matthews and Nylander…? All of which have less career playoff points than Marner…

You’re making me hope Cowan makes the team more and more and does just fine. I grew up with his aunt and still see her routinely.

Cowan has nothing to do with Marner. He’s on an ELC. Both Cowan and the Leafs would still be better off with Marner and without Rielly and the rest of the garbage they’re keeping.
Congratulations on knowing his aunt.

ParticipantFor you UG, wasn’t letting me reply directly:
Tavares is the short term cheap vet now so yes. Another thing to note about his upcoming contract is that the NMC becomes modified in the second half of the deal. Therefore if JT doesn’t endure very well, and let’s be fair he’s still punching out at nearly a PPG, they’ll be able to move him.

ParticipantMan that was annoying, it wouldn’t accept all the typing I was doing there UG, sorry about that, but there, all I was trying to say.

ParticipantI was hoping for a nice 1st line winger with size to play besides Matthews and Knies. A Legion of Doom clone. 3 guys with size driving to the net and working the corners. Not sure where Treliving will find one. The second line needs one as well. I’m not overly worried about the bottom 6. Rielly is the wild card on defense.
